Laney Flanagan, Nerf Cancer Outreach Coordinator

1. What brought you to CSN?
How could I ignore a job posting that involved two of my favorite things - video games and helping others? As I learned more about The Cure Starts Now and all the good they have done in the world of pediatric brain cancer I knew I had found a wonderful opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.

2. What I do at CSN
I am the outreach coordinator for Nerf Cancer, a campaign that brings in the world of online gaming to The Cure Starts Now. I spend most of my days communicating with online streamers, building a connection with them before asking them to fundraise for Nerf Cancer and The Cure Starts Now. I also help plan online events such as Hearts for Heroes and Mayday.

3. What I like most about my job
I really love the community I have started to build! The streamers I have found that have supported us are anything but short of amazing and we couldn’t do what we have done without them. It’s awesome to see those who have worked with us before tell their friends, families, and communities and bring them on boards as well.

4. What moment have you cherished most at CSN?
During the Hearts for Heroes event, I was watching one streamer talk about The Cure Starts Now, Nerf Cancer, and the Hero they were fundraising in honor of. The way they were talking about how we have touched and helped so many people brought not only her to tears but had me on the edge of tears as well. Also, anytime someone donates and brings the streamer to their donation goal - the look on their face is always priceless.

5. Many people would be surprised if they knew I…
Spend a lot of my time learning Korean! When I’m not gaming, or spending time outside, I’ve got my head in my books trying to become bilingual. I also taught English in Korea for 6 months!
